Job Description
Position: Asphalt Plant Operator
Reports To: Plant Manager
Location: Commerce City, CO

Job Description Details

Under general supervision of Plant/Safety Manager, is engaged in operating/maintaining asphalt facility equipment, as well as maintaining related records.

• Gather samples of elevated-temperature materials (primarily asphalt) and test samples in onsite lab.
• Use of a variety of manual and power tools in a safe manner.
• Physically gauge tanks to verify automatic systems.
• Perform maintenance tasks and mechanical duties (pumps, valves, oil checks, etc.).
• Check hot oil heater temperatures stack and settings and monitor throughout the day.
• Open and close valves for purposes of production and product (HazMat) transfer to tank, trucks, and railcars.
• Work with plant employees in production and distribution of product.
• Ensure the plant is running at its maximum efficiency and if it is not, communicate this to the plant manager.
• Ensure the plant is “ready to run” for the next shift.
• Perform liquid asphalt transfers from tank to tank via valves pumps that must be operated.
• Complete all required paperwork in a timely and correct manner.
• Use basic math including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to calculate correct volumes for mixing and transfer records.
• Must have good basic mechanical skills.
• Able to effectively communicate and coordinate with team members.
• Safety and Compliance are key, and this position requires a commitment to following our training and all regulations.
• Able to work differing shifts and maintain flexible work schedules.

Job Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience as an Asphalt Plant Operator desired.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Strong Communication Skills, both written and verbal.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Must be fluent in English, i.e. must be able to speak, read, and write English.
• Computer skills a benefit.
• Must be able to work in elevated-height areas accessible only by stairs or ladders.
• Must be able to perform basic math functions.
• Must demonstrate a commitment to understanding and complying with all Federal, State, Local and Company regulations, policies, guidelines and procedures.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
• Forklift experience a plus.

Physical/Mental Requirements:

• Normal concentration/intensity, which includes prolonged mental effort.
• Normal memory, taking into consideration the amount and type of information.
• Normal complexity of decision making.
• Normal physical mobility, which includes movement from place to place on the job, taking distance and speed into account.
• Standing – 6 to 8 hours daily.
• Walking – 6 to 8 hours daily.
• Bending/Stooping – 6 to 12 hours daily.
• Lifting (weights up to 100 lbs.) – Occasionally.
• Lift and Carry (50/60 lbs. for 20 feet) – Regularly.
• Push / Pull – 6 to 8 hours daily.
• Climb ladder.
• Climb 30’ steps to top of tank.

Work Environment:

• Must be able to work out of doors in extreme weather and perform heavy physical labor in a safe manner.
• Work indoors and outdoors in and around industrial and electrical equipment.
• Work in temperature extremes due to weather conditions and operating equipment.

Pay: From $50,000.00 + depends on experience
